The Music Industry

L/O: To identify and explain different music genres.

Rock

The people who are rock artists typically wear black clothing and jeans, they have a dark look and have odder than usual hairstyles. The artists are typically male bands.

Rock music's beat can vary from fast to slow even in the same song, they usually use electric guitars and drums and are not particularly soft songs.
Rock lyrics are usually about drugs, love, and or life and death.

Pop

The people who make pop music usually dress in what would look trendy to most people, they usually have very refined haircuts. There are both male and female artists.

Pop music usually has a soft beat that people can enjoy when doing daily things, it usually uses soft sounds and some varied instruments. Pop music is highly produced.
The lyrics are usually about romance and friendships, also they may be about money.

R&B

R&B artists wear casual clothes and sometimes suits, the have fairly short haircuts usually. R&B artists are usually black.
R&B music is usually smooth and calm, that you would listen to when you are stressed, they usually use guitars, horns, drums, bass, keyboards and vocals.
The lyrics are usually about love and life, involving problems.

Dance

Dance artists wear very casual everyday clothing in dark colours. They have normal haircuts as well. There are both male and female artists.

Dance music is usually done with electronic sounding sounds. Artists usually use drums, bass, saxophones, electric guitars and samplers. They usually pre record music and then play it and edit it in software.
There are usually no lyrics to dance songs, they are mostly songs that can express the artist's emotions in the music rather than lyrics.

Hardbass

The people who make or listen to hardbass music typically wear tracksuits that are nike or adidas.

The music of hardbass is most times if not always between 150 bpm and 170 bpm. The music uses electronic sounds usually composed in software like FL Studio and sometimes acoustic guitars and accordion.
There are rarely any meaningful lyrics in these songs, usually some words that have influence from the slavic cultures that fit with the beat of the song, sometimes there will be more meaningful lyrics about a certain person, but this is variable.

Hardbass:

The target audience for hardbass is predominantly white people from slavic countries. The age range is from around 14 to 40 years of age. The audience of hardbass is made of people who have interests in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game series and the culture of gopniks.

There are currently no official radio stations or magazines for hardbass, there are still some widely popular fan made radio stations on websites and some also some fan made magazines.

There are many popular individual artists who make hardbass, but they usually do not have official photos of the artists themselves, but instead make a logo in photoshop or other editing programs that they use and put on album covers and as their way of being recognised.

Much of the hardbass audience come from slavic countries, many of the artists are from Slovakia, much of the audience are as well.

R&B:

The target audience for R&B is predominantly for black people from America. The age range would be from around 16 to 70 years old. The audience of R&B is made of people who have interests in chill rap music that are brought up around a working class family.

Radios would include WALR-FM, WVKL, BBC RADIO 1 and more. R&B magazines would include  VIBE, Billboard and Q.

There are lots of popular R&B artists, these include Beyonce, Usher, Chris Brown, Alicia Keys and many more. Popular R&B artists seem to enjoy photoshoots for their music, they prefer to have themselves on the cover.

R&B audiences would mainly include working class and middle class black men and women from America.

Rock:

The target audience for Rock is usually for white males from the ages of 15 to 60 from Europe. The audience of Rock music would usually be people who can relate to the music and are brought up from a working class family.

Radios would include Radio X, Planet Rock, Kerrang Radio and more. Some examples of Rock magazines would include Kerrang!, ZigZag, Rock Sound and others.

There are many popular rock artists, these include The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Nirvana and others. Rock bands prefer to take photos as a group in black and white.

Rock music would typically appeal to an edgier audience that is between the ages of 15 and 60, mainly white men.

    WWW - your genre research is detailed and accurate
    NTT - be more specific with your audience classification - your age ranges are very big. Think about what they sing about and how they look and who this would appeal to.
